"SAKURA MATSURI" 7th Festival of viewing sakura within the framework of the Festival "JAPANESE SPRING IN SAINT-PETERSBURG"
The festival in the Botanical Garden has been held since 2012 and acquaints Petersburgers with the Japanese national tradition of admiring flowers, which arose at the imperial court in the 3rd century. The sakura blossom, symbolizing the awakening of nature and spring renewal, is one of the main holidays of the Land of the Rising Sun, during which people come to the parks to have a small picnic under the blossoming trees and admire their extraordinary beauty. Guests of the festival in the Botanical Garden will be able to visit the Japanese Garden, walk along the greenhouse route, visit the exhibition of Japanese arts and crafts, watch the Kimono show, take part in master classes on taiko drumming and make their own crane out of paper, which, according to Japanese traditions, symbolizes health and longevity. Theater "Mimigrants" will present an exclusive program "Spring Cherry Magic", in which the theater artists will show a musical interactive fairy tale "Turnip-daikon" in Japanese style.

“On Opposite Sides of the Front Line”
“On Opposite Sides of the Front Line”
The exhibition’s title invokes its key idea, which is a narrative of the deadly opposition that unfolded in the wartime Leningrad, told through books, drawings and records published by Soviet and German authorities. The centrepiece of the exhibition is an album of 1943, made up of reproductions of photographs with the views of Leningrad and Leningrad Region under occupation, taken by a German military photographer. ‘On the other side of the frontline’ are Soviet and Russian publications, drawings and illustrations of the wartime and postwar years, some testifying to the damage suffered by buildings and monuments, like those depicted by a German photographer in 1943, as well as Soviet leaflets designed for German troops located at the Leningrad front. The exhibition also features military posters printed in Sverdlovsk, where the evacuated collections from the State Hermitage Museum spent the long five years of their life.

"Orthodox Church Vestments of the Seventeenth to Early Twentieth Centuries in the Hermitage Collection"
Church vestments make a separate and distinct group of items in the State Hermitage Museum’s collections. Just like many other cultural traditions of the Russian Orthodox Church, they hearken back to the Byzantine Empire. Unlike secular clothes, ecclesiastical vestments have been immune to fashion trends. For centuries, they have remained almost unaltered, thus incarnating the sanctity of religious foundations. Nevertheless, some changes can still be traced in their finishing, choice of fabrics and type of embroidery. It can be linked to the styles prevailing in architecture and applied arts. The State Hermitage collection of church vestments includes some 300 items spanning a period from the late seventeenth to early twentieth centuries and showcasing various stages, changes in style and decoration techniques.
