The exhibition in the series “Masterpieces from the World’s Museums in the Hermitage”. In the Hermitage, the Madonna della Loggia is being displayed in the Leonardo da Vinci Hall. Together with Botticelli’s painting, a Greek icon from the second half of the 15th century, for the first time. Thus, the exhibition tells about two paths in the development of painting, presenting two tendencies that existed in parallel: the maniera greca and maniera latina. Those terms, denoting devotional images executed in the strict Greek or modern Latin manner, first appeared in the 15th century in the professional milieu of artists and antiquaries.
