St. Petersburg State Theater Library invites to an exhibition of stage designer Valeriy Polunovsky.
Valeriy Isaakovitch Polunovsky graduated from the workshop of Gennadiy Petrovitch Sotnikov in Leningrad state institute of theatre, music and cinema (LGITMIK) in 1988. Almost 30 years he has been teaching in the Institute as a head of stage designer workshop.
Valeriy Isaakovitch was an art director of more than a hundred plays in Russian, Ukrainian, Finnish, Lithuanian and Estonian theatres. He also worked as art director in Krasnoyarsk operetta theatre and Novgorod drama theatre. At the present he is an art director of Baltic fleet theatre and collaborates with drama theatre headed by Lev Ehrenburg where the artist created sceneries for the plays “At the bottom”, “U”, “Ivanov”, “Three sisters”, marked by awards in numerous theatre festivals.
Polunovsky is a nominee to “Golden mask” award for the play “Vassa Zheleznova” staged in Chekhov MHAT theater.
Among his most known artistic works are the plays “Girl without Dowry” in the Moscow Mayakovski theatre, “Duck hunt” in the Russian drama theatre in Tallinn, “The three-penny Opera” and “Notes from the dead house” in the Lunacharsky theater in Kemerivo.
The exhibition presents mainly theatre works of the artist – costume and sceneries sketches, done for different stagings and unrealized projects.
